Jewish Ritual at the Retreat
The Jewish Youth Climate Movement seeks to cultivate an inclusive, pluralistic space. Our leaders and members join us from numerous denominations, faith backgrounds, and perspectives on Judaism. This diversity of Jewish thought and practice makes our movement stronger.

We will offer a variety of traditional and alternative services throughout the retreat. Many will likely be different from what you are used to. We ask that everyone lean in and enjoy the opportunity to learn new things. We are better together.

That said, we will try and tailor our ritual schedule to the needs and wants of our participants. Please let us know what you are looking for in a nourishing, spiritually fulfilling prayer experience! Note: all JYCM prayer / davening is egalitarian.

Rooming

We cannot guarantee that you will be matched with your roommate preferences, but we will do our best.
JYCM is a pluralistic movement and our members observe shabbat in different ways. For this question, our definition of "shomer shabbat" is someone who observes shabbat traditionally, which includes not using electronics, not playing instruments, not writing, and not turning on/off lights.

Retreat Costs
In order to cover room, board, and various other expenses associated with running a retreat, the full cost of attendance is $500. We will provide a transportation option between NYC and Freedman on Friday and Sunday. Depending on demand, this will either be a bus, or a designated staff member will accompany the teens on Metro North, and we will cover the price of the train tickets. Any other personal transportation to and from the retreat is not covered.

To honor and center equity, and make sure cost is not a barrier to entry for any member of JYCM, we are using a sliding scale of $300-$500. We appreciate anyone who can pay in full to support those who cannot pay in full, and help offset some of our additional expenses. Additional scholarships are available. Please let us know if cost is a barrier to your participation, and we will discuss options.

To reserve your spot, we ask for the $300 deposit and registration to be submitted by January 31, 2026. The rest of the sliding scale fee is due by the first week of March.
